legacy from the past to be preserved into the future. S.
Pedro Do Corval is one of the main cities of the Alentejo
council of Reguengos de Monsaraz, which belongs to the district
of Evora. For years the pottery made in the whole of the
north of Alentejo including the one produced in this village
was the one used by everybody as domestic everyday tools,
they also produced big pieces and bricks for house building.
Groups of 3 or isolated flowers surrounded by decorative
geometric forms adorn flowerpots, salad-bowls and plates.
There is nothing mechanical in the manufacturing of these
pieces. Everything is still hand made, which identifies
and individualizes a set of pieces as well as the processes
of production rooted in the history of this region and of
Portugal per se, safeguard and valorizing that which is
an integrant part of the socio-cultural heritage of the
Alentejo: the art of pottery. Alentejo is without doubt
the place where the clay have better quality and particular
city is one of the places gifted by the best clay-pits ,
enough to satisfy its local production.
